  • Elves Ear... Pointings!

    Disha Singh | Sep 15 2008

When I was younger, I was fairly obsessive about body piercing and when I grew up, I came to know the reality of the piercing. For me only ears, nose, eyebrows and labret were the only body parts to pierce. However, now your any body part can be pierced into holes. With body piercing, there is body modification and shown above is an example of intense ear modification or ‘pointing’ as they call it. Rose Quoll got this procedure done by Howie in Brisbane, Australia. Alongwith so called ‘pointing’ Rose ear can be seen with earlobe piercing or stretching.

Howie’s other works of body piercing and other procedures of this family can be seen at Lunacobra.net.

  • Sophie's Pierced Dimples, ain't they really cute!

    Disha Singh | Sep 15 2008

Steeney at Freaks on Broadway in Westport MO, pierced Haley aka Sophie. Her all three piercings are inspired by her piercer and says,

Well, all three of my industrials were inspired by my piercers willingness to custom bend the bars however I wanted [the challenge was fantastic], the anti-eyebrow seemed like it would fit my face well, the nape of my neck was inspired by the fact that it’s really bad, my sternum piercing was for the shock value and I still find it to be very, very aesthetically pleasing and my cheeks were to enhance my smile and give me dimples.

She is thoroughly satisfied with her piercing but according to her,
The cheeks have proved to be the hardest to heal, I’ve had them over a month and they are still hurting though the swelling has gone down ten fold. Both the nape of my neck and anti-eyebrow rejected though the scarring was minimal, only two dots for each and I haven’t had a single infection, though sometimes I wake up with my head attached to my blanket and then my piercings are sore for a while.

  • Pocketing Versus Piercing

    Disha Singh | Sep 14 2008

Pocketing is another type of piercing, which is depicted as ‘anti-piercing.’ The word itself explains that it is not something same as piercing. There is a difference between the two. In piercing, the center of the jewelry is under skin and the ends are exposed while in pocketing, the ends of the jewelry are under the skin, and middle is exposed, as shown in the pix here.

Even the jewelry is different for each. Pocketing jewelry is simply a curved bar (as shown below) with smooth ends but no beads. On the contrary, piercing jewelry has beads, jewels, etc. Pocketing jewelry is fitted to your skin and piercing jewelry is worn on any part of the body. There is a risk regarding the fall of pocketing jewelry while in piercing, the risk is there but the degree is less. Pocketing is less popular among the people than piercing.
